Obviously, Veteran’s Day is a day whereupon we pay homage to the men and women of the United States armed forces. The media typically uses adjectives such as “brave”, “heroic”, “patriotic”, “courageous”, etc., to describe military service to one’s country in a time of war. Yet, on this Veteran’s Day I am curious to know why neither the media nor Uncle Sam treated James Yee like a hero after his patriotic service as a chaplain at Guantanamo Bay. Whenever a courageous US soldier demonstrates irreproachable integrity by refusing to condone the incessant Aryan savagery toward detainees at Gitmo, is not such an Army officer an American hero? Clearly a dissident, why did the United States government vilify and court martial this West Point graduate as if he were the enemy? Why did the public library where I live vaporize his book, For God and Country, shortly after it first appeared on the shelves? More recently, Big Brother’s Thought Police also vaporized “The Iraq War: Legal or Illegal?” from library shelves and from my Facebook profile’s list of favorite movies! I just woke up one day, and my favorite music, movies, books, and television shows were changed or removed altogether. Wow! Apparently, Big Brother is watching what we read and what we know about his Machiavellian malevolence. Perhaps, my book discussing politics, religion, and sexuality from a Biblical perspective [www.victoryNchrist.net] also is banned. Despite the legalization of gay marriages among GI’s in the military, take just ten minutes to view this profoundly enlightening video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOUceG4bUC0 on YouTube, which illustrates the connection between Satan and sodomy. While I am proud to be an American, I am not proud of our Pentagon’s and our US soldiers’ incontrovertible crimes against humanity in Guantanamo Bay, Iraq, Afghanistan, et al. Albeit never reported by the press, do these egregious war crimes still continue under Pres. Obama, despite his Nobel Peace Prize? I rest my case. My father, like most veterans now over seventy-five, served in the armed forces when the mission clearly was defending our Nation. Yet, ever since the Vietnam War, has not the mission of our deployments or covert operatives around the globe been tantamount to imposing “American interests” upon non-Americans? Is this what the US flag now represents? ‘Tis an interesting moral anecdote to contemplate the next time you affix a “Support Our Troops” bumper sticker to your car!
Most Americans with whom I debate the raison d’etre for this Iraq War refuse to acknowledge our malfeasance toward unarmed Muslim men, women, and children in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and throughout the Middle East. Instead, these “patriotic Americans” choose to believe the media propaganda — namely that our soldiers in Iraq are protecting the United States from weapons of mass destruction. Concomitantly, these “patriots” are not cognizant of the extent to which the Patriot Act has supplanted their civil liberties with totalitarianism. With well over one million convicted felons in our communities, VICE affords them a second chance to lead more virtuous and productive lives via an income opportunity in our book club’s Not Guilty Program. After all, have not all of us made “moral mistakes”? Yet, what better illustration of victory in Christ can one find than Victor Hugo’s Jean Valjean? College students and other members of VICE who have spent at least 90 days in a juvenile facility or in foster care also are eligible for this same $200.00 discount for Independent Agents distributing and discussing books with their customers. As Big Brother relentlessly promotes nihilism, relativism, and atheism, do we the People of the United States become more godly or more evil? IF we destroy Christianity at home and defile Islam abroad, then does Christ dwell within us or is our mantra about “fighting terrorists” merely propaganda that perpetuates our broad political interests? For example, as political pundits pontificate the economic advantages of “globalization”, are we not merely reviving the Crusades and Colonialism to the “economic advantage” of Europeans? In a nation wherein we have freedom to think, to assemble, to read the Bible [at least for now], to reason, to resist evil, and to redress our grievances, IF there is no dissent, if there is no grievance, then there is no democracy!
While many obtuse Americans may think with their emotions, to the chagrin of George Orwell’s Thought Police, I prefer to think with my God-given intelligence. Give me the facts so that I can discern who, what, and where the axis of evil truly is. I agree with Plato’s description of an unscientific man as being one whose “opinions often consist of conflicting and vacillating beliefs that can be altered by another man’s appeal to his irrational emotions.” Of course, Plato’s thinking man probably has read books like State of Denial, The Price of Loyalty, Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, Bush At War, VEIL: The Secret Wars of the CIA, and The President of Good and Evil. While emotional arguments can be passionate, their antecedent often is not logically connected to the consequent. Stated differently, are we Americans delusional about the spoils of war, the oil, and the events described in the DVD, The Iraq War: Legal or Illegal? In addition to discussing sexual immorality, VICE’s textbook also explores the Iraq War as a moral issue of immeasurable consequences for all of Homo sapiens. Perhaps, akin to Oskar Schindler and other German humanitarians during the pogroms of World War II, we the people of the United States now must decide whether to join The Resistance or to acquiesce to a military superpower’s aggression anywhere it so chooses on Earth. Look out China! You may be next now that we have “impenetrable” military bases in Iraq that are within striking distance! If the United States provokes a global nuclear war, then who wins if we all die? According to the Holy Bible…you fill in the blanks.
